Module 1 A and B

Introduction to problem-solving and structured thinking for young adults:
The first unit focuses on goal formulation, a concept fundamental to problem-solving in daily life. This unit introduces the Means-End Analysis (MEA) approach, emphasizing key concepts like Initial State, Present State, Goal State, and Symbolic Distance. Learners engage in puzzle-solving activities, experience how Google Maps aids navigation, and participate in think-aloud sessions, mapping out steps to get to school on time. They also learn about Newell and Simon’s General Problem Solver (GPS) and Shakey the Robot, a pioneering goal-based agent (Lieto, 2021; Russell & Norvig, 2010). Through these activities, students gain a deeper understanding of AI task environments, including single-agent, fully-observable, static, and dynamic scenarios. Additionally, they are introduced to the concept of decomposition, a key problem-solving strategy that involves breaking down complex problems into simpler, manageable parts.
